Barbie was a popular dress-up doll toy line on Earth. It was associated with bright colors, particularly the pink used on its packaging. It had a partly negative reputation for encouraging unrealistic standards of female beauty, such as an impossible "perfect" figure and a style of dress only achievable by the wealthy.
John Crichton occasionally referred to Barbie in a sense of (to him) surreal perfection, such as when he nicknamed the red-haired Niem "Peacekeeper Barbie"[1] and when he muttered "Welcome to Barbie-world" to himself while donning the lurid royal fashion of the Breakaway Colonies.[2]
