Chakan oil was used to fuel Peacekeeper pulse weapons.
The oil was created with Tannot root that was mixed with chemicals similar to that of a Hynerian's stomach. The process was simple enough for peacekeeper infantry to be able to teach the manufacturing process to even primitive societies.
This oil was nontoxic despite its explosive nature and even somewhat palatable. Both Aeryn Sun and John Crichton tested the levels of oil in their pulse pistols by withdrawing an ammo clip and touching their tongues to its tip. ("Thank God It's Friday... Again")
A chakan oil cartridge for a pulse pistol had a standard of 500 energy discharges, but pistols with 600 or more charges were common.
