Litigarans are an ashen-faced but otherwise pink-skinned Sebaceanoid species that live on the planet Litigara. Some Litigarans at least are bald with spots on their heads. On nights when both of the planet's moons are full, Litigarans with blue eyes stay indoors to avoid burns from the moonlight. The society is divided into two classes: the lawyers (90% of the population) and the utility workers (10%). The "Utilities" are oppressed by the lawyers and are seeking equal rights.
The planet is governed through ruling law firms. The senior partner of the currently governing law firm is the planet's supreme leader. Lawyers attained power by complicating the laws in a paperback-sized sacred text known as the "Axiom." Over the centuries, the laws in The Axiom have been expanded to thousands of pages, but The Axiom still contains all the basic fundamentals of Litigaran law.
An interesting concept in The Axiom is the Light of Truth. It was believed that if someone held a burning torch up to a witness who was giving testimony and the torch burned brighter, it meant that the witness was lying.
In Litigaran courts, if a lawyer presents a defense that carries even a whiff of bad faith or falsehood, the counselor suffers the same punishment as the client.
