Commanding Officer Tarn was the leader of the small unit of Peacekeepers charged with defending the Jocacean monastery and its nurses from the Venek Horde, around 500 cycles before John Crichton's arrival in the Uncharted Territories.

Tarn was a capable officer and was described as a "noble man". During his time in command, his feats included saving a convoy of nurses from the Veneks and killing a dozen of the invaders when the Horde breached the sack wall. Tarn was apparently rather modest and gave credit for his many exploits to others. It was probably for this reason that history would erroneously attribute these accomplishments to Tarn's subordinate Sub-Officer Dacon, the unit's communications supervisor and cook.

When Crichton, Aeryn Sun, Ka D'Argo, Stark, and Jool accidentally traveled to the past to the midst of the battle, Tarn was the first to greet them. He was momentarily pleased that reinforcements, however small, have come as a result of their distress signal, but soon the monastery was again under attack from the Venek Horde. In the ensuing battle, Tarn was quickly killed.
