From what has been observed of the actions of their agents, it can be concluded that The Establishment is an Imperial Orwellian order, where thought control, banishment of emotions, and prohibition of expression of the individual is prominent.
Following the line of logic, they probably have traits of every other such type of government in play, from other media's fictitious corrupt governments (such as the Combine Overwatch from Halflife, and the Librian government in the movie Equilibrium) to even real world tactics and policies.
In short, The Establishment is both serious business and very very bad news, and if you are ever captured by them, suicide might very well be an option to consider, before they change your mind for you....
